Super Mario air hockey is a tabletop game, meaning it may be played on nearly any flat surface. That’s great news, as I think all disputes should be settled by flinging red and green shells at each other!
If you’re playing on the floor, try to avoid very plush carpet. The holes on the bottom need to circulate air properly for the board to work effectively.
The game includes:
- Game platform
- Four paddles (2 red and 2 green) in 2 sizes
- Six game pucks in 3 unique shapes
- Three Super Mario character plates
- Four goals (two different styles, one for each side)
Sling turtle shells, stars, and even a Buzzy Beetle token back and forth, trying to score goals on your opponents. The paddles are small, so they’re best suited for the hands of children. However, that never stops me from having fun as an adult too!
How do you play Super Mario air hockey?
Here is how to play Super Mario air hockey:
- For two player mode, install the goal-shaped board ends
- Each player should choose a paddle and puck
- Turn on the game board using the yellow switch on the side
- Players use the paddles to knock the puck back and forth, trying to get it in their opponent’s goal
- Every time the puck makes it in the goal, you receive 1 point
- Use the sliding bars on the sides of the board to keep score
- The first player to 15 points wins
For an extra challenge, try to use all six pucks simultaneously! First one to sink all 3 in their opponent’s goal wins. I think a little chaos makes everything more exciting.
In single player mode, replace the goals with the target shooting plates. Add the 3 character plates on top, then practice firing the puck across the board to knock them down.
It’s a great way to experiment with the different puck and paddle shapes to find what works best for your play style!
