I’ve always wanted to experience the classic video game in real life, and now I can thanks to the Mario Kart Live Home Circuit. This fun game provides both a virtual and physical element to bring video games to the next level.
In the box, you’ll find one cart, 4 gates, 2 turn arrow signs for corners, and a charging cable for the car. Mario Kart Live does not include a physical copy of the game. However, it may be downloaded for free on the Nintendo eShop.
Set up your course any way you like, and get ready to zoom around the house. The only other thing you need for Mario Kart Live is a Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite that supports handheld mode.
The Switch’s screen will serve as your portal to view the augmented reality of the real-life track as you drive. Item cubes will appear to hit, and the car reacts to actions such as boosting, drifting, or item use. Thankfully I don’t have to clean up real Blooper ink!
Integrated into the top of the car is a small camera which transmits back to your Switch. This allows you to navigate the real-life course while still seeing all the extras! Mario Kart Live recommends a space of 10’x12′ in your home for maximum effectiveness.
If you want to get your friends involved, up to 4 people can play together! Every player will need their own game, Switch system, and kart to play. If you want to have two people racing Mario Kart Live head-to-head, you will need 2 Switches.
Just like many classic Mario Kart games, there are in-game environments, gates, speeds, costumes and more to unlock as you play. Rearrange and customize a course of your own with objects around the house for endless fun!
