What you can do with Specdrums is create a composition based on tapping any colored items with the rings. They sync with the MIX or Edu apps, which allow you to assign sound packs and create a personalized mix through your taps.
Specdrums emulate drums, keyboards, and MIDI pads, as well as some of your own sounds. Whenever inspiration strikes, simply tap away to create your customized mix.
The rings are protected by a layer of silicone, so they’ll stand up to repeated taps. Whether you’re tapping an apple or a concrete wall, that’s what they’re designed for!
How do you use a Sphero ring?
Here is how to use a Sphero Specdrums ring:
- Download the Mix app to your smartphone or other Bluetooth compatible device
- Open the app and click the “connect” button
- Locate your rings in the list that pops open and select them
- Click ‘done’ to finish pairing
- Begin to touch surfaces with the flat side of the ring. It’s recommended to start with the color-coded play pad, so you see what colors align with sounds in the app
- Then, tap any color object in the world. The app will choose the closest corresponding color to the item you’ve tapped
Experiment with both loops and samples – single tones or segments of music that correspond to different colors. Create your own unique compositions through your taps!
Most smart devices can handle multiple rings – for example, you can pair up to 6 at a time with an iPhone. Feel free to get creative!
How do I turn on my Specdrums ring?
Here is how to turn on the Specdrums ring:
- Ensure the rings are fully charged
- Open the app on your smart device
- Connect the rings you wish to use via the Bluetooth menu
- The rings automatically turn on when paired and ready to play
If your rings are not showing up in the device list on your app, make sure they are fully charged and try again.
How do you charge the Sphero Specdrums?
Here is how to charge the Sphero Specdrum rings:
- Locate the included two-prong charging cable
- Plug the USB end into a USB outlet, such as a wall, laptop, or power bank
- Connect the other two ends (Micro USB) to the two Specdrums rings (one in each)
- Allow to charge
