How much have you spent on Boba in the last month? That’s it, I’m challenging you to a game of Sabobatage. If I win, you have to go a whole week without one! So, what is Sabobatage?
Sabobatage is a card game based on making delightful Boba drinks. You’ll collect teas, flavors, and toppings to build your own drink empire. The game is simple to learn and only takes about 20 minutes to play. It’s recommended for 2-5 players aged 7 and up.

Thankfully, the game of Sabobatage is highly portable, so pack it along when you visit your favorite Bubble tea shop. Play the game while enjoying your favorite beverage for some kind of Boba inception!
This card game is perfect for game night, hotel rooms, camping trips, or your late-night drink crawls. It’s easy to learn, only taking players an average of 5 minutes to get the hang of things. While it’s recommended for ages 7 and up, teens and adults will enjoy it as well!
In the box, you’ll find:
- 110 playing cards
- 2 menu cards (because who can keep track of recipes, honestly)
- 1 instruction manual
You will have to supply your own “sabotage” though. All is fair in love and Boba, after all.
Sabobatage card game instructions:
The Sabobatage card game instructions are simple in nature. The goal of the game is to create 5 drink sets to win the game. Each drink is composed of 3 different ingredient cards:
- Tea: Black, Green, etc
- Fruit flavors: Peach, Passionfruit, Honey Lemon, etc or Milk
- Toppings: Aloe, Boba, Lychee jelly, Red Bean, Pudding and more
You need to place one card of each category together to make a complete drink set. If you’re not sure what goes together, reference the menu card for help!
What do the action cards do in Sabobatage?
Aside from the ingredient cards, you’ll also find action cards within the deck. Here is what the different action cards do in Sabobatage:
- 5-Star Review: allows you to draw 2 cards from the deck
- BOGO: Draw a card from the deck, and an additional random card from an opponent’s hand
- Straw: Place on a completed drink to keep it safe from sabotage!
- Customer Loyalty: Like a get out of jail free, this negates an action card used against you
- Sugar and Ice: Steal an ingredient card from another player and place it on your table instead
- Bobasurance: Use on an in-progress or completed drink set. Protects from any player action 1 time, then must be discarded
- Health Inspector: Choose a player, and then a topping or flavor. Cards of that choice must be discarded, as they were rotten!
- Sabobatage! The ultimate play, you get to pick 5 ingredient cards from one or multiple opponents to destroy. All 5 must be declared before anyone can use a counter.
How do you play Sabobatage?
Here is how to play Sabobatage:
- Shuffle the decks
- Deal 5 cards to each player
- Choose a person to start, such as the last person to drink Boba
- On your turn, start by drawing two cards from the deck
- Next, play up to three cards from your hand. These can be ingredient or action cards
- Perform the action indicated by the card as played. Note that some ingredient cards also have a special action to draw additional cards
- If you have more than 7 cards in your hand after this, discard down until you’ve reached 7. Then, your turn ends
- Outside of your turn, you may only play action cards to block another player’s sabotage
- Once you have two completed drink sets in play, at the start of your turn you’ll draw 3 cards instead
- Play continues until the first player completes 5 drink sets and wins the game
Each player may have up to 7 drink sets in progress at once. Drinks may be built in any order – the tea doesn’t need to be on the bottom. Once played, ingredient cards may not be moved to a different drink.
For smaller groups, or shorter rounds, feel free to alter the rules to 4 drink sets instead. Most games take between 10-30 minutes on average, depending how vengeful your friends are.
While it’s an easy game to play, it will take some strategy to win. Other players’ action cards will tend to throw a wrench in your plans, so you’ll have to plan carefully to achieve Boba victory!
