It looks like a balmy evening here in Pittsburgh tonight. Ok, yinz put down the Fortnite. We’re going to set up a fire in the backyard. Feel free to invite your friends over. A portable fire pit is designed to fold up and be taken with you wherever you go. Unlike an inground fire pit, these portable pits leave no trace and do not destroy the environment underneath. On a hard surface like cement, sand, or rocks, there is no danger of the heat under the pit ruining the ground. On grass or a wooden deck, you want some form of a heat shield. Any fire resistant material like brick, cement, or a fire pit mat would work to protect the ground.

If you place this fire pit on grass though, it may not be as lucky. With the heat shield option of the Pop Up Pit, you can help insulate the heat before it reaches the ground. A fire pit mat is always an option if you’re especially concerned about using this pit over a prized lawn or on a wooden deck.
When unfolded, the Pop Up Pit occupies a 2′ square on the ground and stands 15″ tall. Your carrying case is 5″ x 27″ and with the pit inside, it weighs around 8lbs. If you love the idea of sitting around a campfire with your family and friends, this is the easiest method to do so. No need to go out doing expensive landscaping in your yard or traveling to find a local approved inground fire pit.
