Where does he get those wonderful toys? I’m gonna need a moment alone boys. After all, I need to sit down and build this 1989 LEGO Batwing kit. Batman shouldn’t be the only one who gets to enjoy this classic vehicle!
The LEGO Batwing came out in 2021, though it’s based on the 1989 version from the movie. This is official build kit 76161 and features 2,363 pieces to assemble. This set is considered a collector’s item instead of a simple building toy, with a display stand included.

I’ll go on record saying that the 1989 Batman movie featured the best versions of Batman’s iconic vehicles. In this LEGO Batwing set, you get to build your own DC Superhero plane!
This kit is a complex build, designed to create an intricate, detailed replica. It also comes with a display stand and plaque, which features fun facts about the Batwing! Also included are 3 minifigures to really set the scene:
- Batman
- Joker
- Boombox goon

The 1989 LEGO Batwing is 2,363 pieces. It will take an approximate minimum of 6 hours to complete. If you don’t rush the build, expect it to be a longer project.
This collector’s set is primarily designed for adults aged 18+ as younger children may find the design too challenging or tedious. Vicki Vale would surely enjoy taking a few award-winning photographs of your completed display though!
How big is the LEGO Batwing?
The LEGO Batwing is about 4” tall, 20” long, and 22” wide when fully built. With the addition of the display stand, the height is 9” instead.
You may tilt the Batwing on the stand and change the “flight” angle, which may help if you’re close to height space restrictions.
How do you hang the LEGO Batwing on a wall?
To hang the LEGO Batwing on a wall:
- Attach the special wall mounting brick to the design
- Drive a screw, nail, or picture hanger into the wall at the desired location
- Slide the opening in the brick over the mounting hardware
The finished design will hang nearly flush against the wall once completed.
