Kirby Otamatone – The Hit Musical Toy in Japan since 2009
I thought yinz kids were in here playing Nintendo at bedtime. I swear I heard the Super Mario theme song coming from your bedroom! Oh, that’s just your Kirby Otamatone making the music. I’m impressed that you learned how to play the synthesizer so well!
An Otamatone is an actual playable musical instrument toy created in Japan. Despite its unique and novel appearance, musicians can create or play any number of songs on the synthesizer. The neck features a range of notes, and a switch on the back allows for swapping octaves higher or lower.
Play all your favorite songs on this unique Kirby Otamatone synthesizer!
Whether you’re recreating your favorite 8-bit Nintendo song or covering a hit on TikTok, you can do it on this Kirby Otamatone. That’s right, this adorable Kirby synthesizer is a fully functional musical instrument. Unlike the pink video game counterpart, this version is more interested in belting tunes than swallowing baddies!
The neck of the Otamatone is where you pick your notes. Similar to a cello or violin, there are no frets. This means that initially you will have a bit of trial and error in finding where the perfect notes and pitches are for your needs. Don’t worry, the full octave range of notes is there!
Speaking of octaves, you can also swap between low, medium, and high octaves of notes. This will add range to your musical creations. I know that once you hear an Otamatone playing on the high octave though that you’ll probably laugh. Nothing is sillier than seeing music come from the cute Kirby mouth!
Kirby’s mouth is another important feature of the synthesizer instrument. By squeezing its cheeks, you create a wah-wah effect on notes. Similarly, by vibrating your fingers on the neck or tilting the Otamatone neck, your notes come out with a vibrato feel.
Is an Otamatone a real musical instrument
Initially created as a Japanese musical toy, the Otamatone is indeed a functional musical instrument. Unlike a guitar, the individual notes are not separated by frets and are instead found by sliding your fingers up and down the neck. Cello or violin players will surely take to this instrument.
If you’re musically inclined, you’ll have a blast creating awesome music on this Kirby Otamatone. Because of the adorable design of Kirby’s face, it makes for great viral content on YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. I know that I can’t help but smile when I hear notes coming from that silly mouth!
Of course, as with any instrument – practice makes perfect!
