While you or your kids might be pros at creating a home in Minecraft, it’s a whole different story when you step out of the game. For ideas on how to decorate a Minecraft bedroom in real life, we’ve put together this guide on creating the ultimate Minecraft themed bedroom to help you out!
Here are the steps to consider if you want to decorate a Minecraft bedroom in real life:
- Cover the floors
- Accent the windows
- Put up some wallpaper
- Hang your favorite wall art
- Change the theme of your bedding
- Add some decorative pillows or plushies
- Use accent lighting to brighten your space
- Organization and storage options
- Create a themed work or gaming space
- Add some finishing touches
Based on your individual space and budget, you may not want to change everything out (or at least not all at once). However, each of these components will go a long way to adding great theming to your real life Minecraft bedroom.
So, let’s talk a little bit more about why each of these components is a good choice, and I’ll even give you some recommendations to set you on the right track.
1. Cover the Floors with a Minecraft Rug
If you’ve gone and fallen into the lava again, I can’t help. However, if you’re just looking to spruce up the floor of your real life Minecraft bedroom, I’m all for it. I’m a big fan of starting from the ground, or floor, up!
Now, if you already have carpet installed in your bedroom, you may not care for a rug, unless you want to put a carpet on carpet. But, if you have tile, hardwood, or another similar hard floor, then an area rug or accent rug is the perfect choice.
So, what’s the difference? Well, area rugs are larger, taking up more floor space, while accent rugs are smaller and great as a bedside rug. Both are functional, helping to keep your feet warm and offering cushioning against the hard floor.
Minecraft rugs are available in a variety of sizes, colors, and patterns, making them an ideal choice for adding a personalized accent to your real life room. The larger the rug, generally the more it will cost, but the more floor space it will cover.
If you have determined your space is better suited for an accent rug, my recommendation is the Minecraft bee accent rug. It’s super adorable and features a non-skid back. At just 31 x 29 inches it fits in a variety of spaces!
When it comes to an area rug, I love the Minecraft underwater area rug. I admit it – I’ve been obsessed with the Axolotls since they were added to the game so this hits a soft spot. It’ll also feel soft under your feet across the room at 5’ x 3’3”.
2. Accent the Windows with Curtains
All you need is sand, wood, and a furnace to make a Minecraft window, right? While it may not be quite that easy in real life, it is pretty easy to decorate your real windows with a snazzy Minecraft look.
Aside from looking awesome, curtains are practical from the perspective that they offer privacy and can help block lights and noise from outside, helping you sleep better.
Since curtains and drapes are also available in many fun colors and patterns, they’re a great way to add a fun accent to your real life Minecraft bedroom!
Our pick for Minecraft curtains are these Creeper spawn motif curtains. The pattern is a gray base, with green and gold accents which is neutral enough to blend with your other decor choices.
They’re 63” long and come in a set of two, with two tie backs, which is appropriate for a 36-48 inch width window. They take a standard 1” curtain rod, and for added points, they’re machine washable!
Regardless of which curtains you accent your windows with, Minecraft drapes are a great way to decorate your real life bedroom. Plus, we all know it helps not to look Creepers in the eye. Pull those curtains closed tight, and stay safe at night!
3. Put Up Some Minecraft Wallpaper
While you might slap some concrete on the walls of your Minecraft home to add some color to boring rocks, you can do the same to your real abode!
Based on how in-depth you’d like to go, there are a few main options for decorating the walls of your real life Minecraft bedroom:
- Wallpaper
- Decals
- Wall Art
To determine which of these options works best for you, ask yourself one question. Would you like to cover all walls, one wall, or just accent existing walls?
Minecraft Wallpaper
I know, you’ve got visions of wallpaper paste and floral designs from grandma’s house. Thankfully, modern wallpaper has come a long way thanks to the invention of peel and stick wallpaper.

LEARN HOW TO USE PEEL AND STICK WALLPAPER!
Here are some of the reasons why you’d choose wallpaper for your real life Minecraft bedroom:
- Cover all walls or just one accent wall
- Easily removable and repositionable
- Cut to fit, easily navigating outlets and obstacles
What are the downsides? Well, it does require installation. While it’s not tremendously difficult to install peel and stick wallpaper, it takes more time than hanging up a photo.
It can also be more expensive than other options, especially if you’re doing the whole room. Finally, peel and stick wallpaper doesn’t adhere to textured surfaces well, so if your existing walls are textured this is not a good choice.
If you are going the wallpaper route, I recommend this green pixels wallpaper. It gives me Creeper vibes without being, well, creepy. As an added bonus if you have leftovers on the roll, you can line drawers or shelves with it for an additional touch!
Oh, and if you’re tempted to wallpaper the door – don’t. It works terribly, I promise. A door cling works wonders to solve that conundrum.
Minecraft Themed Decals
Decals are vinyl clings that can be stuck to your wall, and then just as easily moved or removed.
However, they don’t work well in areas that get moisture or on highly textured walls, as the vinyl can’t seal completely in those areas. Additionally, many vinyls don’t adhere well to paints that have stain guards in them, which, let’s face it, are common in kids’ rooms.
The advantage to using decals over wallpaper in your real life Minecraft bedroom is that they come in a much larger selection of sizes and designs. Choose from big or small, simple to complex designs based on the area you’d like to cover.
They won’t cover your entire wall, either, so they’re not as overwhelming. Additionally, since you’re not fighting a roll or large sheets, I find them much easier to install successfully.
My pick is this Eat, Sleep, Mine decal. While it’s not officially Minecraft merch, I think we all know what it is. I love that it’s flexible for above a headboard, desk or gaming area. Plus, it’s available in 28 different colors, sure to match any décor!
However, there are tons of ideas for Minecraft decals you can use to decorate your real life bedroom. Check out our Minecraft wall decals ideas list to see a huge selection!
4. Hang Your Favorite Minecraft Wall Art
Paper-based art, including posters or framed art pieces, are another great option for how to decorate the walls of your real life Minecraft bedroom. You can hang art from the wall with the help of picture hangers, nails, wall adhesives, or even thumb tacks.
For a damage free alternative, Command strips should do the trick – just make sure you buy the appropriate weight rating.
So, why choose wall art over decals? It’s used in the same way to “jazz up” an existing wall, without covering the whole thing. However, hanging art works great on any type of wall, since it uses a separate hanger instead of adhering to the wall directly.
If you’ve got textured walls to deal with, these are a great alternative over decals. However, wall art doesn’t move as easily around as a decal, as you’ll have to relocate the hook each time.
My pick is the Minecraft Periodic Table poster. It’s just like the Periodic Table from Science class, but this horizontal poster features all the different Minecraft crafting materials in place of the elements. What can I say, my inner geek loves it!
No matter what wall accents you go with, there are a myriad of fun designs that will fit into any room and décor. You can mix and match various media, as well as sizes and styles, to find the perfect fit for your room. It’s an easy and aesthetically pleasing way to decorate your real life Minecraft bedroom!
5. Change the Theme of Your Bedding
One of the first things you notice when you walk into any bedroom is the bed! Such a large piece of furniture takes up substantial space, so your bedding naturally draws the eye. So, when you’re considering how to decorate the room, the bed plays a huge role.
There are four main categories to consider when it comes to picking out bedding for your real life Minecraft bedroom:
- Blankets & Throws
- Sheets & Pillowcases
- Comforters and/or Bed in a Bag sets
- Pillows & Pillow Buddies
You could choose to update all the components and go all out. If you want to keep the new spend to a minimum, prioritize a comforter as it’s the top layer. Maybe it’ll encourage the kids to make the bed if they’re trying to hide what’s underneath!
Blankets and Throws
Blankets and throws are so versatile, which is why they’re a great addition to decorate your real life Minecraft bedroom. Use them for additional warmth on your bed on a cold night. Alternatively, they make great lap blankets while watching movies or gaming.
Weighted blankets are an additional choice geared towards those with sensory issues, trouble sleeping, or those afraid of the dark. They’re filled with glass beads, and weigh about 5 pounds – just enough to feel like you’re being hugged. Even as an adult, I love them!
Even weighted blankets have Minecraft patterns available, like my favorite 60” x 40” Evil Spirits Minecraft weighted blanket.
If your goal is simply additional warmth, our pick is this Sherpa-backed Minecraft Earth blanket. It’s 60” x 90” so it fits on a bed, and adds an extra layer of warmth for those really cold nights!
When it comes to throws, I love this super soft fleece Minecraft Creeper blanket. It’s emerald green with black Creeper faces over it, and at 39” x 59” it’s the perfect size for a chair throw or the end of the bed.
Pillowcases and Sheets
I’ll admit it – there’s nothing I love more than crawling into comfy, clean sheets at night. So, what better way to pay homage to your favorite game than by decorating your real life bedroom with Minecraft sheets?
In fact, I got two sets, so I can always have one on, even when the other is in the wash!
To avoid getting a whole new sheet set, even adding some fun pillowcases will really add some style. My pick are these fun double-sided Busy Bees Minecraft pillowcases! They fit a standard bed pillow so you don’t need anything fancy.
I do still prefer matching sheets myself, and as such, my pick is this Day and Night Minecraft sheet set. It’s available in full or twin sizes and comes with a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and one standard pillowcase (two in the full). They’re made of soft microfiber so they’re super comfy!
For some extra warmth in the room, check out this Minecraft flannel sheet set. The fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcase are made of a warm, soft flannel, perfect for those chilly nights. The pattern features all sorts of characters like Creepers, Zombies, and Pandas – oh my!
Comforters and Bed in a Bag Sets
If you only want to swap out the top layer when you decorate your real life Minecraft bedroom, then a quilt or comforter is your best option. It’s pretty low-cost to only change out the top layer, and it instantly adds a little gaming fun to the room.
My pick is the breathable Minecraft Earth comforter, because this twin/full comforter is reversible! Any time you want to change the look, just flip it over. There’s nothing I enjoy more than keeping things refreshed!
Bed in a bag sets, on the other hand, are the whole kit and kaboodle. These come with sheets, pillowcases, and a comforter all in one set! Instead of having to choose different pieces to coordinate, they’ve done all the work for you.
Most are available in both Twin and Full sizes – you get one pillowcase with the Twin and two with the Full. Our choice is the soft, fade resistant microfiber Minecraft Chibi bed in a bag set. With cats, Creepers, and ghosts, what more could I want?
Your bedding offers so many great options for how to decorate your real life Minecraft bedroom. You can mix and match adding as much or as little theming as you want to your setup. With so many great ideas, you’re sure to find one or multiple sets that you’ll love!
6. Add Some Decorative Minecraft Pillows or Plushies
Not to be confused with the pillows you actually sleep on (which are covered by pillowcases), these are accent pillows. Place these on top of your freshly made bed to add a little touch of Minecraft to your real life bedroom.
Pillow buddies, which are also a great accent, are actually squishable companions kids will enjoy sleeping with. They’re closer to the class of a stuffed animal while still being a decorative touch.
For a buddy, my pick is the glow in the dark pillow buddy. This Minecraft squid glows, helping to chase away monsters in the dark while being cute and cuddly too!
If you prefer a more traditional style accent pillow, this decorative pillow cover is made of normal cotton. It’s available in Ghost or Creeper patterns currently (though I’ve seen other offerings in the past). Note that the pillow is not included, but it fits a standard 15 or 16 inch accent pillow.
7. Use Accent Lighting to Brighten Your Space
All rooms in your home have some type of lighting. From overhead to wall mounted to standalone types, there are many different styles of lighting. Regardless of type, they all share one thing in common – the ability to light up a room!
These fixtures provide light for reading, working, playing, crafting, and all sorts of other activities. Depending on your space, there are many great options to choose from, and that includes Minecraft themed lights!
When it comes to lights to decorate your real life Minecraft bedroom with, there are three primary styles:
- Wall Mounted Lights
- Free Standing Lights
- Tabletop Lights
Which version you choose depends on the size of the room and the amount of space you’d like it to take up.
A free standing lamp will stand on the floor, but often fits nicely in a corner. Tabletop lamps need a dresser, end table, or similar space to rest, but won’t take up extra floor space beyond the furniture.
Wall mounted lights, as is probably obvious, are hung on the wall so they take up no floor real estate at all. However, they require installation and possibly even wiring depending on the style. If “plug and play” is more your style, then you’re better off with one of the other options.
Wall-Mount Minecraft Lighting
Wall (or ceiling) mounted lighting is not only an important way to light the room, but it’s also a great way to add some personalization. Adding some wall lighting is a great way to make your real life Minecraft bedroom really shine!
Our pick are these wall mount Minecraft torches, which run on 3 AAA batteries instead of being hard wired. They mount on the wall with just a simple screw!
Remove them easily to change the batteries, or when the kiddos want to use them as a nightlight. They’re perfect for framing a bed or doorway, and great for keeping Creepers away!
To avoid adding anything to the walls at all (such as in a rental), then I’d suggest a mining tool light switch cover. If you have an overhead light already, this is a fun way to add Minecraft accents without calling an electrician.
Just replace your existing cover and add a bit of fun. It only takes a screwdriver! If you move (or change your mind) you can always swap it back to a plain cover just as easily.
Freestanding Minecraft Lighting
Freestanding lighting sits on your floor and shines upwards, providing high level lighting in the room without needing to install an overhead.
Even in addition to existing room lights, I find them to be the perfect accent. I keep one behind my gaming area for a little extra visibility, but they honestly work well anywhere you need a little more illumination.
So, when it comes to decorating a real life Minecraft bedroom, you can’t go wrong with a themed floor lamp! My pick is the super adorable 5 ft Minecraft brownstone torch lamp.
Not only is a great fit looks-wise for your gaming bedroom, but it boasts space for 3 included cube storage bins. A lamp that is also an organizational system? How can you go wrong!
Tabletop Minecraft Lighting Ideas
Tabletop lights are a great addition to existing furniture tops, to add a little extra light. Place one on a nightstand for a bedside table lamp, great for reading. Situate one on a desk for better visibility while writing, gaming, creating art, and more.
Of course, there are a variety of awesome Minecraft themed lights available to assist you in adding some fun to your real life bedroom.
Our pick is this 14” Minecraft glowstone lamp which uses a bright LED bulb to light the room. If you don’t love glowstone, it’s available in other patterns like grass block, Creeper, or bee nest!
This lamp is operated via a switch in the cord and is a great choice for a desk or bedside table. You’ll need to plug it in, but it uses a standard outlet, which you likely have nearby in a bedroom anyway.
If you don’t have any outlets handy, we reviewed an awesome Creeper glitter light that acts like a lava lamp! It uses batteries or a USB cable to operate, for a much more cordless option.
8. Organization and Minecraft Themed Storage Options
Most bedrooms have some form of closet within them for storage. Whether it’s an open one, a walk-in, or closed off by folding or sliding doors, we all use them in the same way. Closets are perfect for storing clothing, toys, shoes, and they often house our dirty laundry hampers too!
You may not immediately think of your closet when you think of how to decorate a real life Minecraft themed bedroom, but there are a lot of great ideas to organize with Minecraft in mind!
Open top fabric cubes are ideal for storage of soft items, such as socks, mittens and gloves, or scarves. They slide onto closet shelves for an organized, clutter free feeling.
For this style of storage unit, our pick goes to the 4-piece Minecraft storage bin set. Each cube is a 10 inch square open top cube, providing ample space for all your goods. There are 4 fun Minecraft themed patterns included: grass block, TNT block, Creeper, and crafting table.
Anything that needs to be protected from dust is better off in a storage option with a lid. I store game controllers, spare cords, games, toys, movies, and other electronics in this style of cube.
For that purpose, I love this 15 inch square bin with carry handles and a lid. It’s available to look like a grass block or a TNT block from Minecraft.
They stack on shelves, on the floor, and even on each other for easy organization. Kids can even carry them out and put them back when done using the easy handles!
9. Create a Themed Work or Gaming Space for Your Table or Desk
Many bedrooms have a table or a desk in them. It’s a place to set up a computer for work or play – like playing Minecraft! It’s also a place to sit and read, and a space for writing, crafting, and other activities.
Office and work spaces are a great place to add in some fun Minecraft decorations to your real life bedroom.
We particularly like this Minecraft Creeper desk mat. It fits your keyboard and mouse, or even an entire laptop! Not only does it help keep things organized and in one place, but it also prevents your desk from getting scratched. Who knew Creepers were so useful?
Above your desk area, adding a Minecraft wall shelf is another great way to add some gaming decor. This 2’ long shelf holds 15 pounds, so it’s great for photos, office supplies, knick knacks, and even lightweight books.
Having the right tools in your work space is always important for staying productive. Bringing in elements of your favorite game, though, is a perfect world. When I’m at work, it gives me something to look forward to for later!
