What is scratch paper made of?
Scratch paper is made of a dense paper stock, similar in weight to card stock. Holographic, rainbow, or other assorted colors come printed on the base of the sheet. Then, they layer ink (generally black) over top. You then remove this top ink layer with an instrument such as a wooden stick.
Why is it called scratch paper?
Scratch paper received its name due to the way in which you reveal the colored layer below. Using a wooden stick, pen tip, or stylus, you scratch off the top layer of ink. This allows you to create a colorful design while scratching in lines and shapes of your choosing.
