I think I’m going to grow potatoes this year. It’s one food we’re always eating, and I’ve wanted to try my hand at a little gardening anyway. No, don’t worry, I don’t need you to dig up a garden bed in the backyard. I’m going to use vegetable grow bags instead!
Grow bags are a flexible, breathable, fabric bag available in various sizes which are used for growing various types of plants. They can be used indoors or outdoors, and are easily moved. This gives gardeners a lot of flexibility in terms of locations and seasons in which to grow.
Grow potatoes, tomatoes, and other vegetables at home without a garden thanks to grow bags!
These potato grow bags make growing vegetables easy at home, even without a garden. Since they’re self-contained, they’re perfect for patios, balconies, or even sunrooms. They can be used indoors or outdoors, making them viable for year-round growing.
Using a vegetable grow bag is simple as well. Just fold out the bags, and fill them about halfway with growing soil and fertilizer. Then, plant your seeds or plants. As your plants grow, you can add more soil or compost to fill the bag up. Just make sure your plants get adequate sunlight, and you keep them watered. They’ll be happy, healthy, and make lots of vegetables for you.
Despite the name, potato grow bags work with more than just potatoes. You’ll be able to grow tomatoes, carrots, onions, chili peppers, broccoli, turnips, radishes, and more! The Rouffiel bags ship in a set of two, with each bag having a 10 gallon capacity.
How many seed potatoes can I put in a 10 gallon grow bag?
In a 10 gallon grow bag, you’ll want to plant about 4 seed potatoes in total. If you’re using actual seed potatoes, this is four complete potatoes. If you’re using a store bought potato that happens to have sprouted, it can be cut up, with one eye per segment. In this case, plant four segments.
While it can be tricky to locate actual seed potatoes, it may be worth the time to do so. Store bought potatoes are normally treated to prevent growth in the store, so they sell better. However, if you happen to get potatoes that do sprout, they are safe to plant and grow.
How long does it take to grow potatoes in bags?
Using a vegetable grow bag, your potatoes should be ready for harvest in about 7 weeks’ time. These grow bags boast a 6.7” tall 360” window near the base of the bag, which allows you to see inside. You’ll be able to watch your vegetables and see once they’ve reached maturity.
Once you’ve harvested your vegetables, simply use these grow bags again and again! Simply remove the plants and soil, and you’re ready to repeat the process again. The bags are dual layered, breathable, and UV resistant. They’re designed to be used for several seasons through multiple harvests.
