I may have fallen down the rabbit hole of pancake art. Yes, I was watching Pokemon pancakes being made, and next thing I know I’ve got a pancake art griddle kit. Now I’m some sort of Picasso in the kitchen, working on my abstract art, trying to pass it off as a pancake.
The Dancakes griddle is specially designed to be optimized for pancake art. That’s not to say you can’t make regular, round pancakes here too. However, it has a special 15.5″ x 14″ cooking surface which is the ideal canvas side, and is great for easy flipping. That keeps your designs looking nice, by the way.
A 1500 Watt heating element creates even heat, which is important for getting the pancakes cooked. Yes, you’ll actually be eating those designs. Nobody wants to tack a stale pancake up on the wall. The temperature is adjustable between 150F and 400F – I like to use about 350F myself.
Three small “pen” bottles and one large bottle for pancake batter are included, with tips perfect for drawing. Simply make your batter (standard pancake mix works great), then split it between bottles, adding food color to create different hues.
Draw your masterpiece right on the cold griddle with your bottles. Then, turn up the heat for cooking. When it’s time to flip, use the included wide, flat spatula for the perfect turn. The nonstick coating on the griddle prevents sticking, keeping your designs looking great.

What stencils or templates can I use for pancake art?
If you’re not confident to create your own designs from the start with pancake art, try a stencil. It doesn’t have to be a special pancake stencil, in fact grab any cookie cutter. Use the shaped cutter and fill it with pancake batter. Add in your own details to the basic shape, such as eyes or a mouth.
If it’s not metal, pull the stencil before cooking to prevent it from melting. Even if it is metal, pull it as the griddle begins to warm up, so the batter can still meld with the other colors and features. This is most applicable with a cutter with various compartments, though you’ll need to remove it to flip anyway.

If you’d like to just freehand it, go for it! Mistakes taste just as good as fancy pancakes, so there are no losers here. A drip tray makes for easy cleanup, and high edges on the griddle make sure there’s no crazy runoff to clean up.
To freehand pancake art, use the smaller bottles to draw the details of the design, such as eyes, nose, smile, etc. Then, use the larger bottle to finish the background of the design, like the forehead, cheeks, chin, etc. The layers will fuse together during cooking, allowing you to flip.
