QUALITY
The cards are pretty standard. I love that they took advantage of the cards to display some iconic scenes and quotes from the movie rather than just patterns. The tiles are small but nice thick cardboard. The box is very sturdy.
PLAYING THE GAME
1) Every player (2-4) gets three pattern cards. Two with three bulbs and one with four bulbs. Your goal is to make this color pattern on the board to claim the card. Person with the most cards finished will win.
2) On your turn, draw and place a tile.
3) If you have a card that is matched on the board (i.e. red, green, blue) in order on the same unbroken light strand, you can claim that card and place it face up in front of you. You need to do this now because the tiles can change later!
4) Turns go around until someone plays all three of their pattern cards or all the light tiles have been played. Winner is the one with the most played pattern cards.
To toss in some wrenches, tiles with a “+” symbol can be played over already played tiles. Broken wire tiles can also break someone’s pattern. For extra fun, if you draw a broken wire tile, you can give it to an opponent and draw again. That opponent then has to play it instead of a new tile on their next turn. Interesting mechanic.
It’s a solid game. Surprisingly difficult to keep up with the twisting wires and order of bulbs. I expected this to be much easier. Obviously the difficulty increases with the number of players and can make for a very short four-player game. This isn’t a game that is the focus of game night. It’s more of game to pull out while waiting on the pizza.
I think they did a good job of tying in the movie with the funny pattern cards. I’m happy with it. Fun stocking stuffer.
